JOHNSTONE'S TRADE YOUNG PAINTER OF THE YEAR WINNERS ANNOUNCED

This year marked the 15th year of the Johnstone’s Young Painter of the Year competition, which saw seven young professionals from across the UK take the title.
Regional finals were hosted in Glasgow, Newcastle, Bournemouth, Folkestone, Doncaster, Liverpool and Leicester, with a winner and runner-up selected at each event. Budding painting professionals, aged 16 to 27, competed to demonstrate their skills and knowledge by undertaking a range of technical painting tasks, incorporating complex patterns and geometric designs.
Each regional winner was awarded a £200 cash prize and a generous bundle of high-quality goods from leading industry suppliers, including Toupret, Shurtape, Tesa and Ciret.
Although every competitor showed incredible aptitude and decorating talent, the winners and runners-up were:

James Surtees from the Johnstone’s Trade technical department said: “All of this year’s nominees demonstrated immense talent and truly deserve the recognition that the competition provides. We hope that Young Painter of the Year continues to serve as an inspiration to budding painters and decorators across the country, and we already can’t wait for the next competition!’’
Johnstone’s Trade is now looking to the 2020 Young Painter of the Year competition, which provides an exciting new opportunity. 2020 will see the launch of the grand finale event, giving all participants the opportunity to be crowned the ultimate Young Painter of the Year. The final will tie up with the Johnstone’s Painter of the Year competition and allow shortlisted entrants to recognise the young talent in the industry by helping pick the final winner.
Paul Farrell from Johnstone’s Trade said: “The competition is immensely important in building and strengthening young talent in the painting and decorating industry. That is why this year we have introduced a new element, by hosting a grand finale at the prestigious Johnstone’s Painter of the Year ceremony. This will allow the best young painters and decorators to have their work celebrated amongst industry professionals.”
