The 300-year-old Acklam Hall has undergone a multi-million pound renovation from an old college into a new extravagant wedding venue that is truly inspiring with the help of Johnstone’s Trade.

As the Tees Valley’s only grade 1 listed building in Middlesbrough, the property required an uplifting colour scheme with quality products to match. The remarkable building required a strong attention to detail, and a colour design to mirror and enhance the historic grandeur, highlighting the ornate features and the buildings historic character. Decorators W D Davison & Sons teamed up with Paul Thompson Builders, Howarth Litchfield Architects and Johnstone’s Trade to select the right colours and paint finishes for the building.

Johnstone’s Covaplus Vinyl Matt in off-white was used to paint the elegant hallway of the grade 1 listed building, to create a fresh and welcoming entrance. Specified for its high quality finish and whiteness properties, Johnstone’s Covaplus Vinyl Matt was used in the seating areas in the property to create a stylish, boutique makeover which enhanced the grand décor of the chandeliers and tiled flooring. As well as being applied on the walls and ceilings of the spectacular reception, emphasizing the high ceilings and magnificent wall décor.

Additionally, Johnstone’s Acrylic Durable Matt was the ideal choice for the high traffic spaces of the food and bar area, due to its outstanding durability. The colours specified for the project reflected the heritage of the building, using dark brown shades to create a warm and romantic atmosphere.

Johnstone’s Satin Woodstain was also used on the hand rails of the balconies in the corridors of the building to protect the wood from decay, all in a host of special heritage shades to complement the Hall’s classic period charm.

Acklam Hall has been beautifully restored to the high expectations of Historic England. Taking a sensitive approach to ensure the paint finishes accentuated the high celling roses and general ornamentation at best. Davison & Sons have created stunning spaces that will make the perfect backdrop to any wedding.
